Retarder performance mode

SOPS parameter RetarderPerformanceMode · seen in 14 SOPS files

What it controls

Enables a performance-oriented retarder strategy that allows higher brake torque from the hydraulic retarder when the vehicle is in Power mode or on long descents. In the standard specification the retarder torque is limited to protect the cooling system; the performance mode raises that limit while the coolant temperature allows it, giving drivers of heavy combinations noticeably stronger auxiliary braking. Because the extra torque also produces more heat, the parameter should be enabled only on vehicles with the cooling capacity for it (large radiator, high-capacity fan). It works with LimitMaxRetarderBrakeTorqueType and the DHSC settings; review all three when reconfiguring a retarder control unit.
