What it controls
Selects the functional variant of the downhill speed control, the function that holds a set speed on descents using the retarder and exhaust brake. The manual variant lets the driver set the speed with the button; the offset variant adds an automatic speed offset above the cruise set speed at which the auxiliary brakes intervene; the automatic variant engages the control by itself when the vehicle accelerates on a descent. Drivers of heavy combinations in hilly terrain benefit from Manual+Offset+Auto; distribution vehicles in flat regions are often specified with Manual+Offset. The default and minimum offsets are set in the two companion parameters.
