Automatic start gear selection

SOPS parameter AutoStartGear · seen in 10 SOPS files

What it controls

Decides whether the Opticruise gearbox chooses the starting gear automatically from the load and gradient, or always starts in a fixed gear. Automatic selection uses the axle load signal and the inclination sensor to pick a higher gear when empty and a lower one when fully loaded on a hill; a fixed start gear is sometimes required by bodybuilders whose PTO or split-shaft installation needs a defined gear, or by operators who want a predictable behaviour on soft ground. Vehicles reconfigured after a gearbox control unit replacement must have this value copied from the original specification, otherwise the starting behaviour changes noticeably for the driver.
